GROWTH by NCRC Managing Director Ed Gorman Leads Affordable Homeownership Session at NCRC’s Just Economy Conference
The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) held its annual conference in Washington D.C. on June 13-14, marking a triumphant return to an in-person gathering after the event was temporarily held virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the many educational sessions held over the two-day conference, one of the first was “Getting it through our thick heads: Building affordable homeownership is about scale!”
GROWTH’s Managing Director, Ed Gorman, organized and moderated the session, leading a panel that included City of Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, City of Atlanta Senior Advisor Courtney English, and Housing Channel CEO and President Donna VanNess.
Each individual on the panel shared essential insights on increasing the scale of affordable homeownership in their respective cities and posited solutions for the “Missing Middle” as well as those involuntary renters struggling to achieve the American Dream of owning a home.
At one point, Gorman noted, “You’re seeing commitments that I have not seen anywhere in the country for affordable homeownership,” speaking on public-private partnerships with the cities of Birmingham and Atlanta.
